Blogging for Links
Blogs are a good way to get links to your site. There are several ways to do it without getting into trouble with Google.
You can create a free account on Wordpress or Blogger and write about the same topic as your site. Put links in the blog posts that point to pages on your site that are about the same topic.
If you have a store, write about a product and link to that product page.
You can also get your own domain and put a blog on it. This is a better plan for a long-term blog because you own the actual site and can do anything you want with it, including putting advertising on it.
If you go this route, put your blog with a different hosting company than your main site. This will give it a different IP address. If Google sees a lot of sites linking together from the same IP, they disregard the links. The Googlebot is smart enough to see what you’ve done and realize it’s just you tooting your own horn.
Another way to get links from blogs is to leave thoughtful comments on someone else’s blog. A thoughtful comment isn’t, "Cool, I agree". Write a paragraph or two about the blog post you’re commenting on. Many blogs have nofollow tags on the comments, but some don’t. Good comments on popular blogs can get you backlinks and/or traffic.
