Link Love

Link Love.. just another term for the necessity of getting links to your website before it’s considered any kind of authority. Sites with the highest page rank from Google generally have more links.

But wait… just getting link love from any old site won’t cut it in Google’s eyes.

In other words, links from pages that are about airplanes won’t count for much of anything if your site is about flowers. You need to stay on topic and have your linking come from sites that someway relate to your flowers.

A good way to get incoming links is to write articles and submit them to various article directories. You write whatever you want about a relevant topic to your website then put a link to it in the section reserved for info about the author. Pretty simple.

Here’s a trick to use - link to more pages than just your home page. This is called ‘deep linking’.  Spread all that link love throughout your site. If your article is about kinds yellow flowers, put a link in it to a page in your site about yellow flowers. That does two things. It spreads links to internal pages on your site and if a person reads your article and wants to see more yellow flowers, they’ll be taken directly to that page.

Haven’t you felt the frustration of clicking on a link and be taken to the home page only to have to hunt for the info you wanted? I usually click off real fast when that happens.

Link exchanges with sites that are similar to yours is also a good plan. For instance, for your flower site, try to get links from gardening or landscaping sites. Patio or home decorating sites would also be good choices.

One-way link exchanges don’t count for as much in Google’s eyes as they used to but it still can’t hurt to pursue them. Yahoo, MSN, Ask and others still look at total links coming in. It’s getting harder and harder to fool the search engines.

Paid links used to work great, but not as well nowadays. The bots keep getting more and more sophisticated and can figure out if a link is from someone who truly likes your site or if you paid for it. If you work on getting more incoming links from varied sources and add new real usable content to your site, you’ll build plenty of link love naturally and will rank well in the search engines.
